Recently, high-temperature weather has persisted intensely. Prolonged exposure to such environments necessitates strengthened heatstroke prevention measures. Today, we bring you a practical guide to preventing heatstroke in high temperatures. Let’s stay safe together this summer!
Tips for Preventing Heatstroke
In hot weather, physiological functions such as body temperature regulation and water-salt metabolism undergo a series of changes. If the body fails to adapt to these changes, heatstroke may occur.
Symptoms of heatstroke can range from mild to severe. Initial signs may include headache, dizziness, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating, and pale complexion. Without timely intervention, the condition may worsen, leading to symptoms like rashes, fever, skin pain, muscle pain, and fatigue. In severe cases, it can even cause convulsions, fainting, or impaired consciousness.
Replenish Fluids and Electrolytes Promptly
Drink small amounts frequently: Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water. Sip a few mouthfuls (about half a cup) every 20–30 minutes. By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already in a state of dehydration.
Add some "extras": Drinking plain water alone may lead to fatigue after heavy sweating. Add a pinch of salt to your water or opt for light soups, mild saline solutions (avoid excessive saltiness), or electrolyte drinks with low sugar content (check the ingredient list for low-sugar options) to replenish lost salts and energy.
Take Personal Protective Measures
Choose appropriate clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored attire to help dissipate heat. When outdoors, take sun protection measures such as wearing a wide-brimmed hat, using an umbrella, or applying sunscreen to avoid direct sun exposure.
Carry heat relief supplies: Bring heatstroke prevention items like Huoxiang Zhengqi Pills, Rendan pills, Ten Drops, or cooling oils when going out or working, to be prepared for emergencies.
Plan Your Routine Wisely
Ensure adequate sleep: High temperatures can take a toll on the body. Aim for sufficient sleep at night to allow your body to rest and recover, effectively boosting resilience and reducing the risk of heatstroke.
Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat: When temperatures reach 32°C (89.6°F) or higher, stay indoors as much as possible with proper ventilation. Try to avoid going out during midday, minimize prolonged exposure to the sun, and stay away from areas with intense direct sunlight.
